COPTR is a registry of tools useful for [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_preservation preserving digital information for the long term]. COPTR is an initiatve to collate the knowledge of the digital preservation community on preservation tools in one place. Instead of organisations [http://wiki.opf-labs.org/display/SPR/Digital+Preservation+Tools competing against each other with their own registries], COPTR is an initiative to bring them together. In doing so it's objective is to provide the best resource for practitioners on digital preservation tools.

COPTR is supported by [http://www.educopia.org/events/ANADPII Aligning National Approaches to Digital Preservation (ANADP)], [http://www.openplanetsfoundation.org/ The Open Planets Foundation (OPF)], The [http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/ndsa/ National Digital Stewardship Alliance (NDSA)], [http://www.dcc.ac.uk The Digital Curation Centre (DCC)], [http://digitalcurationexchange.org/ The Digital Curation Exchange (DCE)] and the [http://digitalpowrr.niu.edu/ Digital POWRR Project]. The data in COPTR was collated from registries run by these organisations. It was produced with support from the Jisc funded SPRUCE Project.

Contribute Your Experiences

To be useful, COPTR needs your help to update existing records as tools change, or to reflect your experiences using the tools. We also need new records for any new or missing tools you think are useful and we'd love to host more digital preservation workflows so we can learn more how these tools are used in context. You can find out more about how you can get involved here.

Editing this wiki requires a user account, but due to problems with spam, you have to get in touch with us to request an account. Just email coptr@openpreservation.org with your preferred username and we'll get you sorted. If you have any problems accessing your account, or want to report any spam, you can use the same contact email to request help.

About COPTR

The Community Owned digital Preservation Tool Registry (COPTR) helps practitioners find tools needed for long term digital preservation tasks. It describes 622 tools and 36 workflows.

The COPTR Tools grid allows you to browse to view lists of tools that address specific content types or functions. It was inspired by the original Preserving digital Objects With Restricted Resources project (POWRR) Tools Grid and developed in partnership with the POWRR Project.

COPTR is part of Digipres Commons, is hosted by The Open Preservation Foundation (OPF), supported by the The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), and is maintained by you!

For more information, see About COPTR, including how to Contact Us, how COPTR is structured and how to access COPTR data via the API.
