Barrapres
Description
BarraPres is an open-source software component developed and maintained by the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (Ibict). It forms part of the Hipátia digital preservation model, which supports the implementation of Trustworthy Digital Repositories for archival records.
BarraPres acts as an integration layer between records-management systems, digital preservation platforms, and access environments. It automates the collection and transfer of digital objects and their associated metadata to preservation systems such as Archivematica. In combination with Archivematica and AtoM, it supports workflows based on the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) reference model.
The tool contributes to the preservation of the authenticity, integrity, reliability, and long-term accessibility of digital records. Its use is particularly relevant to public institutions and archival organizations that need to establish structured and interoperable digital preservation workflows.
BarraPres was developed in the context of a partnership between Ibict and the Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories (TJDFT). The Hipátia model is organized into five main phases: archival preparation, computational preparation, extraction of digital objects, preservation, and dissemination.
