COPTR is collating the knowledge of the digital preservation community on preservation tools in one place. Instead of organisations [http://wiki.opf-labs.org/display/SPR/Digital+Preservation+Tools competing against each other with their own registries], COPTR is bringing them together. In doing so it's objective is to provide the best resource for practitioners on digital preservation tools.

Community Owned digital Preservation Tool Registry (COPTR)

COPTR describes tools and workflows useful for long term digital preservation. It primarily acts as a finding and evaluation tool to help practitioners discover the tools they need to perform particular preservation tasks. There are 607 different tools described in COPTR.

How to use COPTR

Each tool is categorised by the Lifecycle Stage it falls within, the (sub) Function it performs and by the Content Type that it operates on. For example, EpubCheck performs the Function Validation and operates on EBook Content. COPTR can help by enabling you to browse to tools that meet a particular need - perhaps relating to a specific Content Type or Function.

How to contribute to COPTR

COPTR is a wiki and is easy to edit! It relies on contributions from the community to expand its coverage and maintain the information it holds. Don't be afraid - dive in and add new information to COPTR:

About COPTR

COPTR Partners

COPTR was created and launched with the support of the Aligning National Approaches to Digital Preservation initiative and has been populated and maintained by members of the COPTR partner organisations:

COPTR is part of Digipres Commons, is hosted by The Open Preservation Foundation (OPF), supported by the The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), and is maintained by you!

Funding and development

COPTR was made possible by support from the Jisc funded SPRUCE Project and the Institute of Museum and Library Services funded Digital POWRR Project.
