Description

Download sample legacy file formats from the UK Web Archive Shine service, and Archives Unleashed's Warclight based on a file's first four bytes (FFB).

Shine's public interface enables searching for sample files using a file's first four-bytes, if you know what you might want to look for. This utility uses the same Shine based GET request to build a set of files to download, or return a single example, which can then be requested using wget. Examples are provided in the tool's README.md. Releases are available in all major platform. Issues and pull-requests to improve its stability are welcome. Please use responsibly and don't needlessly poll any implementation of the Shine service!

The ideal use of moonlight is to build a greater number of sample files from a more varied range of sources for submission alongside a file format signature. This is to improve the ability to verify an identification pattern's efficacy.
