Description

Quoted from the website “Apache PDFBox™ is an open source Java PDF library for working with PDF documents. This project allows creation of new PDF documents, manipulation of existing documents and the ability to extract content from documents. Apache PDFBox also includes several command line utilities.”

Recent versions also include a PDF/A parser/validator module. Executable JARs can be downloaded here:

User Experiences

Applied in an AQuA Mashup to address the preservation Issue: '[AQuA:Detect, extract and analyse embedded objects in PDFs]'.

Successfully applied by the British Library for characterising PDFs.
